The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Beijing delivers services listed below in relation to Driver License to Sri Lankan nationals in China:

  1. Renewal of Driver Licence

  2. Issuance of Duplicates of Driver Licence for lost Driver Licence

  3. Change of personal details of Driver Licence

  4. Verification of Names in Driver Licence

For 1, 2 & 3 above, it is essential that the applicant be physically present to submit application and finger prints. All the payments should be made in Cash or by bank transfers. (Credit/ debit cards/ wechat payments are not accepted)

 

01. Renewal of Driver Licence

Required Documents:

All Photocopies Should Be Submitted in A4 Size.

  1. Duly completed MTA 30/2 (offline) application form

  2. A letter addressed to “Commissioner General of Motor Traffic, Department of Motor Traffic, Colombo, Sri Lanka”

  3. Current Sri Lankan driving license (Copies of both sides)

  4. A valid Sri Lankan passport with a valid visa to stay in China (Copies of the Bio Data page and observation page)

  5. National Identity Card with a copy (NIC is not mandatory if the same NIC number appears in the passport)

  6. A Medical Certificate certified by the Consular Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in China.  

  7. Two black and white passport size photographs (3.5 cm x 4.5 cm)

 

02. Duplicate of a Driver Licence in lieu of lost Driver Licence

Required Documents:

All Photocopies Should Be Submitted in A4 Size.

  1. Duly completed MTA 30/2 (offline) application form

  2. A letter addressed to “Commissioner General of Motor Traffic, Department of Motor Traffic, Colombo, Sri Lanka”

  3. Complaint made to the Police Station of the applicant’s resident city or the driving license that is deformed or blurred

  4. A copy of driving license deformed, if available

  5. A valid Sri Lankan passport with a valid visa to stay in China

  6. National Identity Card (NIC is not mandatory if the same NIC number appears in the passport)

  7. A Medical Certificate certified by the Consular Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in China.   [Medical certificate is compulsory for heavy vehicles License (i.e. Motor Coach. Motor Lorry etc.) but optional for light vehicle license .]

  8. Two black and white passport size photographs (3.5 cm x 4.5 cm)

Please note it is mandatory to mention DL number or NIC number to trace back the details in the computer system

 

03. Change of personal details of Driver Licence

Required Documents:

All Photocopies Should Be Submitted in A4 Size.

  1. Duly completed MTA 30/2 (offline application) form

  2. Current Sri Lankan driver license (Copies of both sides)

  3. A valid Sri Lankan passport with a valid visa to stay in the China

  4. National Identity Card ( NIC is not mandatory if the same NIC number appears in the passport)

  5. Documents of evidence; eg:- A copy of the Marriage Certificate / Divorce Certificate or any other valid document in cases of changing the name, Resident Certificate for altering the address.

  6. Two black and white passport size photographs (3.5 cm x 4.5 cm)

 

04. Verification of Names in Sri Lanka Driver Licence

Required Documents:

All Photocopies Should Be Submitted in A4 Size.

  1. A letter addressed to “Commissioner General of Motor Traffic, Department of Motor Traffic, Colombo, Sri Lanka” for verification of name appearing in the Driver Licence.

  2. Originals and photocopies of following:

  • Driver Licence (Copies of Both sides)

  • Sri Lankan Passport (Copies of the bio data page and observation page)

    - Once the request is accepted, it will be forwarded to the Department of Motor Traffic in Sri Lanka in order to verify the details of the Driver Licence.

    - Upon receipt of verification from the Department of Motor Traffic, the Embassy will issue a letter confirming names in the Driver Licence and the Passport.


Payments

  • Duplicate License, Change of Personal Details, Renewal before the end of expiry date of the License - US$ 115/-  or RMB 785/-

  • Late fee for annum for renewal of Driving License – US$ 10/- or RMB 70/-

 

Note:

Foreign nationals can apply for a Sri Lankan driving license from the Department of Motor Traffic in Colombo 05. Only light vehicle driving license can be obtain from this system. More details can be obtained from the following web site: www.motortraffic.gov.lk
