Ambassador, Dr. Palitha Kohona, and Mr. Chiranjaya Udumullage from Beijing Sri Road ceremonially handed over a package of Sri Lanka Black Tea and Maliban Ginger Biscuits to be marketed on Chinese High Speed trains. This was a major breakthrough for any Sri Lankan product. The ceremony was held at the Embassy on 21 December 2021. It was jointly organized by the Embassy, the Sri Lanka and China Economic and Trade Cooperation, Chamber of Commerce and the CZK International Resources Investment Group.

The Maliban Ginger Biscuits and the Black Tea will now be available on high speed trains operating from the Guangdong, Hunan and Hainan Provinces.  2400 high speed trains operate daily to and from these three provinces carrying 120 m passengers per year.

The Ambassador, Dr. Kohona, speaking at the ceremony said that Sri Lanka tea and biscuits are being introduced for the first time on high speed trains.  He expected to see many more products from SL on the high speed trains such as Thembilli water in tetra packs and Arpico latex travel pillows.

The travel group Caissa, a leading tour operator in China, and the Hunan Construction Group also attended the event.
